Englishman Lewis Hamilton handled the wet conditions and captured Sunday's British Grand Prix Formula One race. The No.22 McLaren Mercedes crossed the finish line over one minute ahead of Nick Heidfeld.
The victory was Hamilton's third of the season and seventh of his F1 career. Rubens Barrichello, Kimi Raikkonen and Heikki Kovalainen completed the top- five.
"This is by far the best victory I have ever had," said Hamilton. "It was one of the toughest races I have ever done."
Hamilton was leading Heidfeld and Kovalainen with 23 laps to go when the weather conditions took a turn for the worse. The heavy rain made it difficult for the drivers to keep their cars on the track.
Hamilton, Robert Kubica, Raikkonen and many other drivers had scary off-track moments. The brief period of heavy rain came to a halt just as the leaders were ready to make their final pit stops.

McLaren Mercedes driver and series sophomore Heikki Kovalainen on Saturday swept to pole position for the British Grand Prix, his first pole in Formula One, "by a mile," or "a half-second in real terms," as his team informed him via radio.
The Finn scorched his way to a 1 minute, 21.049-second lap around the 3.6-mile Silverstone Circuit, bumping first fellow countryman Kimi Raikkonen in Ferrari then Mark Webber for Red Bull. With a 1:21.554, Webber was told by his team he was P1 while Kovalainen hustled to the checkered flag then the Australian settled for claiming Red Bull's first front-row start in the team's fourth season. Raikkonen set a 1:21.706.
Kovalainen, like Webber, has achieved successive career milestones at the circuit that has been home to the British Grand Prix since 1987. Silverstone has been the focal point of the industry as a majority of teams are based near or have shops in the area.
"It's been going really well all weekend," Kovalainen said. "We managed to put some more pace to the car last week (during tire testing), and all week here it's been carrying on from that. And, um, obviously, I've been spending (time) around this Silverstone area for many, many years of my life, and I know a lot of families and friends around here so it's great to make first pole here and tomorrow we try to just carry on."

Ferrari's championship leader Felipe Massa crashed heavily but still set the fastest time in Friday's free practice for the British Grand Prix.
Massa, the first Brazilian to lead the Formula One standings since the late Ayrton Senna in 1993, skidded on oil deposited on the track by the Renault of double world champion Fernando Alonso.
The Ferrari spun at the 210kph Stowe corner, slamming backwards into the wall with 33 minutes of the first session remaining.
Massa stepped out unhurt but the car suffered considerable damage to the rear. The red flags came out as marshals removed the wreckage and cleared oil from the track during an 18-minute stoppage.
"It was a big crash, but that's part of the game and I have had much worse accidents in my career," said the Brazilian.
