Ferrari's Felipe Massa won today's European Grand Prix on a street circuit in Valencia, the first- ever Formula One race in the Spanish city.
McLaren's Lewis Hamilton came second, 5.6 seconds behind, and stretches his lead in the drivers' standings to six points. BMW's Robert Kubica was third.
Massa led Hamilton right from the start, with the order changing only when the drivers went in for their two pit stops. To the disappointment of home fans, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso of Renault dropped out just after the start, when an accident with Kazuki Nakajima's Williams damaged his car. It was the Spaniard's second retirement in this year's two races in Spain.
Ferrari was involved in controversy
First Massa -- who led Hamilton by as much as 10 seconds at one point -- was released into the path of Force India's Adrian Sutil as they left the pits, but pulled back before there was any contact. Stewards said they would investigate any potential safety violation by Massa after the race rather than impose an immediate penalty.
McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen came fourth, and Toyota's Jarno Trulli fifth. Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel, Timo Glock of Toyota and Nico Rosberg of Williams were the other points- scorers._____

Hungarian Grand Prix, Hungaroring Cricuit
Finland's Heikki Kovalainen amply repaid the faith placed in him by his McLaren team this weekend, winning his maiden Grand Prix title in Hungary on Sunday just three days after agreeing a contract extension.
The 26-year-old, who had started to look like a mere helper for team mate Lewis Hamilton after managing just one podium finish all season, promptly produced his first Formula One win.
Kovalainen capitalised on a late Felipe Massa engine failure to steal the lead three laps from the end and was also able to steal the show from championship leader Hamilton who took fifth place after suffering a puncture in the race's middle section.
Although Massa's misfortune played a major factor in the Finn's triumph, Kovalainen certainly did his bit in recovering from a start where Massa stormed past both the McLaren drivers.
"I tried to push Felipe as much as possible at the end and when I saw a car on fire with big smoke coming out on the main straight I thought it must be Felipe -- but it was hard to believe._____

The German GP Hockenheimring Circuit
McLaren's Lewis Hamilton won a thrilling German Grand Prix on Sunday to forge four points clear of Ferrari's Felipe Massa at the top of the Formula One championship.
Brazilian rookie Nelson Piquet, who had started in 17th place on a one-stop strategy, finished an astonishing second for Renault after leading for six laps in the race of his life. Compatriot Massa was third.
The safety car was deployed on lap 36 after the Toyota of Germany's Timo Glock suffered a dramatic high-speed suspension failure and slammed into the concrete wall backwards at the entrance to the straight. The driver was helped groggily from the wrecked car, with debris scattered across the track, and taken to the medical centre. With the exception of Hamilton, the leaders all came in to refuel and change tyres when the pit lane opened.
Massa's appearance on the podium with him made it the first time two Brazilian drivers had stood in that position since Piquet's father and namesake joined the late Ayrton Senna in the top three in 1991._____
