Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix differed greatly from the majority of the previous races during the 2008 Formula 1 season, in that it was relatively straightforward.
Penalties and escaped punishments have not been dominating the post-race headlines following the Shanghai battle. Instead, most of the talk appears to be about whether Lewis Hamilton will be able to handle the pressure, this time around, when we reach Brazil.
Both of Ferrari’s drivers, Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen, admitted that catching Hamilton was an impossible task on Sunday, as the Englishman won from pole and opened up a seven-point gap on Massa with a single Grand Prix remaining.
While controversy didn’t overshadow events in China, one incident has received some criticism. Massa only finished second because he was allowed to by team-mate and outgoing World Champion Raikkonen, prompting a minority to slam the contrived maximising of Massa’s points haul.
While Massa lives to fight another day, BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica's hopes of winning the title finally dissolved on Sunday. In truth, his chances were all but ended when he failed to make it through to Q3 in qualifying the previous day.
